Delhi government, in a move to develop the capital’s EV charging infrastructure, has finalized the tender to install 500 points at 100 charging stations. The Aam Aadmi Party government has set the task to be completed latest by June.

The tender was initiated by Delhi Transco Limited to build charging stations at crucial locations, namely Metro stations. The capital will provide an EV charging facility at 71 metro stations. The stations will be a part of the public-private partnership model. In this PPP model, the Delhi government will be responsible for providing lands, through land-owning agencies, and infrastructures like transmission and cabling. Whereas, the private partners will be tasked with providing charging stations, staff, and services in this whole project.

The present number of charging stations, hoisted by Delhi, is at 180 with 379 charging points. This number comes after excluding the 79 battery swapping stations with 274 swapping docks.

Out of the 100 new EV chargings stations, the North West district will house 22 of them, followed by South 19, West (18), South West (15), North East (9), East (8), North (5), and lastly, New Delhi (4).

The project aims to build public charging stations within the general reach of 3km from any point within the National Capital Territory. The new charging stations are scheduled to be opened by June 27 and the cost for charging will be Rs. 2 per unit, which is far lower than the charging cost of other states ranging between Rs. 10- 15 per unit.

The bidding criteria for the tender were set to be the lowest service charge. This step was in guidance to get consumers the best possible and competitively economic service charge. The winning bid came out to be at the rate of minus Rs. 3.60 per unit. This puts the whole EV charging cost incentivized.

The guiding framework was built by the working group, which has representation from the power and transport departments, municipal corporations, and the power discoms.
