DTC to go digital

Keeping up with the trend, DTC (Delhi Transport Corporation) has finally set the plan to computerize its entire functioning, including bus operations, records, online passes, and route management. This decision has been pending for more than a decade and is, at last, ready to take its first step. For this, DTC has invited a project management consultant to help the corporation select a suitable implementing agency.

DTC, at present, have a total number of 3,744 buses running under its fleet, between 35 DTC depots. The number of drivers employed under the Delhi Transport Corporation is around 10,726 with 15,726 conductors and 2,917 other DTC staff. These working employees are responsible for the operation and management of buses and the 20 lakh passengers using DTC service daily on the roads of the capital city. The number of daily DTC commuters before the Covid-19 breakout was 30 lakh, which has now dropped down to 20 lakh commuters daily.

The corporation, thus, plans to digitalize its services. DTC has been engaged with consultancy firms and agencies dor designing, developing, testing, training, implementing, and maintenance of ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning). Besides this, the corporation has been looking for help in digitalizing their records to be used in ERP, and also incomplete computerization of the entire DTC functioning.

Some of the present IT projects under DTC have been: Online Delhi-Kathmandu bus booking portal, Online bus pass system, Depot operation system, One Delhi/Charter app, and complaint management system mobile app. But the corporation has shown its desire to fully go computerized soon. It is aiming for efficiency in work and transit, leading to the best maximum use of resources.

In the digitalization process, DTC aims to have a single platform to help manage its functioning and operations. This also includes access via mobile applications. Reporting tools and dashboards are also in the future agenda of computerized DTC. Employee management, scheduling, and planning of routes, Inventory management, accounts, payroll, PFs, etc., are to become part of the DTC computerization agenda. The implementing agency will also work on the betterment of the present software of DTC.
