Highway (2014)

Highway is a 2014 Indian road drama film written and directed by Imtiaz Ali and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala. The film stars Randeep Hooda and Alia Bhatt. Screened in the Panorama section of the 2014 Berlin International Film Festival, the film was released worldwide on 21 February 2014. The film is based on the episode of the same name from the Zee TV anthology series Rishtey, starring Aditya Srivastava and Kartika Rane, which was also written and directed by Imtiaz Ali. It tells the story of a girl (Alia Bhatt) who, for reasons later revealed, discovers freedom after being kidnapped. This film received positive reviews.

2 states(2014)

2 States is a 2014 Indian Hindi-language romantic comedy-drama film based on Chetan Bhagat’s 2009 novel 2 States: The Story of My Marriage and written by Abhishek Varman and Bhagat. Directed by Varman in his directorial debut, the film was jointly produced by Karan Johar and Sajid Nadiadwala under their respective banners Dharma Productions and Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment on a total budget of 320 million (US$4.2 million). Features Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhatt in lead roles, 2 States co-star Amrita Singh, Ronit Roy, Revathi and Shiv Kumar Subramaniam as supporting cast.

Distributed by UTV Motion Pictures, 2 States opened in global cinemas on 18 April 2014. Praised for its music, cast performances, story and direction, the film earned 1.75 billion (US$23 million) in worldwide markets thus emerging as a critical and commercial success. The recipient of many accolades, 2 States was nominated in eight categories at the 60th Filmfare Awards winning two awards there: Best Music Director (Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy) and Best Debut Director (Varman)

Dear Zindagi(2016)

Dear Zindagi (transl. Dear life) is a 2016 Indian Hindi-language coming-of-age drama film written and directed by Gauri Shinde. It was produced by Gauri Khan, Karan Johar, and Shinde under the banners of Red Chillies Entertainment, Dharma Productions, and Hope Productions respectively. The film stars Alia Bhatt, with Ira Dubey, Kunal Kapoor, Angad Bedi, Ali Zafar, Yashaswini Dayama and Rohit Suresh Saraf in supporting roles. The film also stars Shah Rukh Khan in an extended cameo role as Dr Jehangir Khan. The plot centres on a budding cinematographer who is discontented with her life and meets a free-spirited psychologist who helps her to gain a new perspective on her life.

The development of the film began in 2015 when Shinde signed Bhatt and Khan for a film to be made under her banner. Principal photography took place in Goa and Mumbai, in the period from 21 January to 20 May 2016. The film features a score composed by Amit Trivedi and lyrics written mostly by Kausar Munir.

Raazi(2018)

Raazi is a 2018 Indian Hindi-language spy thriller film directed by Meghna Gulzar and produced by Vineet Jain, Karan Johar, Hiroo Yash Johar and Apoorva Mehta under the banners of Junglee Pictures and Dharma Productions. It stars Alia Bhatt and features Vicky Kaushal, Rajit Kapur, Shishir Sharma, and Jaideep Ahlawat in supporting roles.

The film is an adaptation of Harinder Sikka’s 2008 novel Calling Sehmat, a true account of an Indian Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) agent who, upon her father’s request, is married into a family of military officials in Pakistan to relay information to India, prior to the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. Principal photography of Raazi began in July 2017 in Mumbai and was completed on 27 October 2017. It was shot across several locations including Patiala, Nabha, Malerkotla and Doodhpathri.

Raazi was released on 11 May 2018. Made on a budget of 350 million (US$4.6 million), Raazi went on to gross 1.96 billion (US$26 million) worldwide, emerging as one of the highest-grossing Indian films featuring a female protagonist. It was also a critical success, with Meghna’s direction and Bhatt’s performance receiving praise. Raazi received 15 nominations at the 64th Filmfare Awards, where it won five awards, including Best Film, Best Director, and Best Actress for Alia Bhatt.
