The residences and automobile of two businessmen-brothers in West Bengal's Howrah district were searched on Saturday, and police reported finding almost eight crores in cash.
The search operation, according to the Kolkata Police, was conducted at midnight on Saturday after two banks notified the authorities on October 14 about significant transactions made by the two businessmen who had accounts there.
A police official reported that at least two crores was found in a vehicle outside the residences of Sailesh and Aurovind Pandey in a posh neighborhood in Shibpur. The cops then went inside the two brothers' homes and discovered additional cash hidden inside the box springs of the mattresses. The business people's family members weren't there at the time of the raid, police said.
The Anti-Bank Fraud Section of the Kolkata Police's detective division opened an inquiry after a case was reported to the station at Hare Street. The brothers are the subject of a lookout notice from the Kolkata Police, whose locations remain unknown. They are also looking into two bank accounts connected to them that contain substantial sums of money.
Since July of this year, several vast sums of cash have been seized in West Bengal by either central or state investigating authorities. Additionally, this has resulted in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the current Trinamool Congress swapping accusations (TMC).
Samik Bhattacharya, a BJP spokesperson, criticized the state administration in response to the raid, saying that a tiny group of persons had "amassed vast wealth." ill-gotten money with the support of the TMC."
Santanu Sen, a Rajya Sabha member for the TMC, replied that such seizures were evidence that the state police were looking for money that had been hidden unlawfully.
