Congress has now announced that Siddaramaiah will be the next Chief Minister of Karnataka and DK Shivakumar will be the Deputy Chief Minister. Addressing a press conference, Congress leader Randeep Surjewala today said that the victory in Karnataka is not of the party but of the people. He said that the party president has decided who will become the CM and DK Shivakumar was also a contender for the post of CM.
Congress general secretary KC Venugopal said that Shivakumar would continue as PCC president till the end of the parliamentary elections. He said that on May 20, there would be a swearing-in ceremony in which along with the Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister, a group of ministers would also take oath on that day. According to sources, the party leadership has also decided to induct around 20-25 new ministers.
Siddaramaiah will take oath as CM for the second time. Siddaramaiah, 75, was the CM of Karnataka from 2013 to 2018. 61-year-old Shivakumar has been a minister in the state and is currently the Karnataka Congress chief.
Let us tell you that in the elections to the 224-member Karnataka Assembly, the Congress has won a big victory with 135 seats, while the ruling BJP got 66 and the Janata Dal (Secular) led by former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda got 19 seats.
