Mother elephant shields her infant from the rain "like a giant umbrella"

The Nilgiri highlands of Tamil Nadu are where the mother elephant and her youngster were filmed.

Elephants are renowned for having a strong sense of family and community. The profound bond the gentle giants have is seen in a video of an elephant mother shielding her child from the rain.

The video was posted on Twitter by IAS officer Supriya Sahu and was shot in the Gudalur municipality in the Nilgiri district in Tamil Nadu.

On Monday morning, Sahu posted the 28-second video on Twitter with the caption, “One of those exceptional times when the planet is graced with the birth of an exquisite baby elephant. Mother elephant acts as a giant umbrella shielding the youngster under her from torrential downpours. Nilgiris #TNForest Gudalur

Over 11,000 thousand people have seen Sahu’s video. An individual commented on it on Twitter with the following statement: “Sometimes even animals teach us how to take care of young ones with love & devotion. Looks lovely in our mundane, materialistic world.

Another commenter said, “True depiction of Reality of love. The mother’s affection for her children can’t get concealed. Acknowledge Nature’s gift of love. I appreciate you sharing such a wonderful photo.

A similar video gained a lot of attention on social media last month. A herd of elephants was seen marching on the road with a newborn calf moving between their feet, which was allegedly recorded from all sides in the footage in Tamil Nadu’s Sathyamangalam municipality.

Elephant calves remain entirely reliant on their mother for feeding up until the age of three, according to PBS. Approximately, they depart them once they turn independent at 16 years old.
