The Winter session of the parliament, which began on November 29 and was expected to go on till December 23,  ended a day early of the original schedule. Both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha have adjourned sine die by Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu after the lists and papers were listed.

The session had 18 sittings in total and introduced 12 bills during the session which included the presentation of some of the important bills including the Farm Laws Repeal Bill, Prohibition of the Child Marriage( Amendment ) Bill, and the Election Laws (Amendment) Bill. Due to the disturbance caused by the opposition during the session on various laws such as the price rise issue, the Lakhimpur Kheri violence issue, and also the voter-aadhar linking issue, the session lost 18 hours and 48 minutes. The opposition was also adamant in demanding the removal of the junior home minister over the Lakhimpur issue and continuously protested over the hurried manner in which the bills were being passed in the houses without taking the time to discuss them.

Lok Sabha on the other hand recorded a productivity of 204 percent on December 2 which was remarkable, reported the Lok Sabha speaker, Om Birla. There were disruptions in the Upper House too, due to the suspension of the 12 MPs because of their “unruly” behavior in the August session of the parliament.

Chairman Venkaiah Naidu, while addressing the session, said that the Rajya Sabha had functioned much below its potential and urged all the members to introspect and reflect on how the session could have been different and better. He did not want to speak elaborately on the course of the session stating that it would have led him to take a very critical view on it. The Chairman also stressed that there are rulings and regulations to be followed and that decorum has to be maintained at all times.

There were a lot of opinions that were floating around on social media regarding the issues which led to the adjournment of both houses indefinitely. The Opposition was seen rejecting the “selective approach” of the government and they continued to aggravate their agitation by protesting outside and inside the parliament house. The Opposition was of the opinion that it was the responsibility of the Government to run the sessions smoothly. One of the suspended MPs said that the entire opposition floor leaders at Monday’s meeting were unanimous in their rejection of the Government and that the only intention of the Government was to foil proper discussions.
