By 2047, India will fulfil the aspirations of freedom fighters: President Murmu

President Droupadi Murmu stated in her first national address on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of India’s independence that it should be the people’s collective commitment to fully realise the ideal of our freedom fighters by 2047, when the country will celebrate a century of independence.

President Droupadi Murmu stated on Sunday that compassion for the marginalised, the poor, and the oppressed is the country’s current watchword. India has assisted the globe in realising the possibilities of democracy.

In her 17-minute speech, the president praised the decision-makers for ensuring that the country grew while becoming more inclusive and reducing regional inequities.

Most other well-established democracies required women to fight for the right to vote over an extended period of time. However, she noted that India has since the commencement of the Republic established universal adult franchise rights.

The nationwide Covid-19 vaccination campaign, which last month reached the historic milestone of 2 billion (200 crore) doses, was also praised by the speaker.

The nation’s fifteenth President, who is also the second woman to hold the position, added that whereas most democracies need women to fight for their right to vote over a long period of time, India has always practised adult suffrage (right to vote for every citizen who is aged 18 or above).

She added that India can be credited with assisting the globe in realising the full potential of democracy, as the architects of modern India made it possible for every adult citizen to take part in the collective process of nation-building.

From becoming fighter pilots to space scientists, our daughters are scaling great heights,” she said

She praised the Narendra Modi administration and its policymakers for bucking the global trend and fostering the growth of the economy and claimed that the success of start-ups, particularly the rising number of unicorns, is a shining example of industrial advance
