The former COO at Vistara and SpiceJet, Sanjiv Kaoor, has been appointed as CEO at Jet Airways 2.0.
Jet Airways had stopped operating in April 2019 when lenders rejected Rs. 4 billion of emergency funding. Following which, the airline suspended all flight operations as its membership in the IATA got suspended. With the debt of $1.2 billion, the company was referred to the National Company Law Tribunal for bankruptcy proceedings.
Now promoted by Jalan Kalrock Consortium, Jet airways has plans to restart operations by summer months, although the initial plans included restarting operations at Jet airways by the first quarter of 2022. Kapoor, with the overall experience of more than two decades in the airline industry, and currently being the president of Oberoi Hotels & Resorts, will take over his new role from April 4, 2022.
Murali Lal Jalan, lead partner of the Jalan-Kalrock consortium said that he his happy that Sanjiv joined their team and believes that Sanjiv will be able to lead Jet airways and make it become the most preferred full-service carrier of India, as the Jet airways set on its journey to reclaim its glory and surpass everyone’s expectations.
Jet Airways-II could take to the skies next summer as a full service domestic airline with a fleet of six aircraft. As per its website, Jet Airways serves 57 destinations including 37 domestic and 20 international destinations in 15 countries across Asia, Europe, North America and Middle East and other codeshare destinations.
Kapoor said, “I am looking forward to getting back to aviation. Even though Jet Airways has been out of operation for three years, it still has a large fan base of loyal customers who miss it every day and can’t wait for it to take to the skies again.” He added he looks forward to leading the charge in rebuilding Jet Airways into the most preferred customer-oriented airline once again, a people-focused airline for the digital age.
