Sony was sued for thousands of billions of rupees over allegations that it sold products at excessive prices.

According to a report in Sky News, nine million claimants have filed a lawsuit against Sony Interactive Entertainment, accusing the corporation of “overpricing” PlayStation games. According to the site, Sony users have accused the company of “ripping people off” using its online store’s games and in-game purchases. Alex Neill, an advocate of human rights, put forth the effort that led to the collective action. According to the lawsuit, consumers may have been overcharged by as much as 5 billion pounds (about Rs 4,71,25,85,06,250) over the course of the last six years, according to Sky News.

Since August 19, 2016, the complainants have taken into account every game or add-on content purchase made in the UK on their console or through the PlayStation Store.

According to the outlet, each of these users may be entitled to compensation. Without interest, the estimated harm per class member ranges from 67 pounds (Rs 6,317) to 562 pounds (Rs 52,988).

Sony hasn’t addressed the accusations as of now.

“The game is up for Sony PlayStation. With this legal action I am standing up for the millions of UK people who have been unwittingly overcharged. We believe Sony has abused its position and ripped off its customers,” Ms Neill told Sky News.

“The actions of Sony is costing millions of people who can’t afford it, particularly when we’re in the midst of a cost of living crisis and the consumer purse is being squeezed like never before,” she added.
