In the wake of Muslim nations’ outrage over the Prophet remark controversy, India and Iran had discussions on Wednesday, with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian reportedly raising the matter of the contentious remarks in a meeting with National Security Adviser Ajit Doval.

Iran’s Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, is the country’s first significant guest, coming just days after Iran joined Kuwait, Qatar, and other Gulf nations in criticizing BJP members who made anti-Muslim remarks and were eventually sanctioned by the party.

According to an Iranian readout cited by news agency PTI, Abdollahian highlighted the problem of the “negative climate” produced by “disrespectful” statements about the Prophet, and said that the Indian side underlined the Indian government’s respect for the founder of Islam.

According to the Iranian translation, National Security Advisor (NSA) Doval underlined the Indian government’s reverence for Prophet Muhammad’s founder, adding violators will be “dealt with in such a way that others will learn a lesson.”

However, there has been no formal government response to the meeting’s specifics or the Iranian statement thus far.

“It was a pleasure to meet Prime Minister Modi, Foreign Minister Jaishankar, and other Indian officials to further our bilateral strategic conversation.” Both Tehran and New Delhi agree that divine faith and Islamic sanctities must be respected and that divisive words must be avoided. Adamant about taking relationships to new heights, ” Following the meeting on Wednesday, the Iranian minister tweeted.

The minister complimented the Indian people and administration for their reverence for Prophet Muhammad, as well as religious tolerance and historical cohabitation of many religions, according to an Iranian readout reported by numerous news outlets.

According to PTI, the Iranian foreign minister also mentioned the country’s long-standing goodwill amongst adherents of all religions.

“Abdollahian praised the Indian people and administration for their reverence for heavenly faiths, particularly the Prophet Mohammad, as well as religious tolerance, historical cohabitation, and friendship among followers of diverse religions in the nation,” he added. According to the report,

“Muslims are happy with the position of Indian officials in dealing with the perpetrators,” the Iranian foreign minister remarked.”

After various Muslim nations expressed concern over the contentious statements, the BJP suspended Nupur Sharma, the party’s national spokeswoman, and dismissed the Delhi unit media chief, Naveen Jindal, on Sunday.

Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Indonesia, Jordan, Bahrain, the Maldives, Malaysia, Oman, Iraq, and Libya have condemned the remarks, with many summoning Indian envoys to voice their displeasure.
