The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has released information on business financing and income for sponsored research for 2021–2022. IIT Madras said in its report that the team at the Industrial Consultancy and Sponsored Research (ICSR) had, for the first time, amassed financing and earnings of more than Rs 1,000 crore in a calendar year (2021–2022). This comprises Rs 313 crore in industry consulting fees and Rs 768 crore in financing from projects approved by the State and Central governments.
For projects like Education through Information and Communication Technology Using Direct-to-Home (DTH), Center of Excellence for Road Safety (CoERS), Speech Technologies in Indian Languages, and Collecting Datasets and Benchmarks for Building Indian Language, the IIT Madras has received significant funding between 2021 and 2022.

Professor V. Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras, emphasized the cutting-edge translational research being conducted at the institute. He said: “The performance of the Centre for Industrial Consultancy and Sponsored Research is very encouraging and perfectly aligned with the Strategic Plan of IIT Madras. This is a result of our increasing communication with funding organizations and businesses.
IIT Madras has long been the nation’s focus for digital education thanks to the NPTEL program and, more recently, the Online BSc. Professor Manu Santhanam, Dean (ICSR), IIT Madras, explained the institute’s measures to improve industrial consulting and sponsored research. There is now a new dimension thanks to the latest Direct-to-Home effort. The institute’s esteemed faculty has been pushing the envelope for the uses of  their research, which brings in more and more industry funding.”

According to Professor Manu Santhanam, IIT Madras has created the ideal setting and facilities for high-caliber research. The support services offered by ICSR and administration help projects run smoothly. “The steady achievement in the NIRF rankings has also enhanced IIT Madras’ status as a top educational and research institution, and that is certainly the key reason behind the good rise in Research and Development funding,” he continued.
