19-year-old Devvrat Mahesh Rekhe hailed for the rare achievement

  • Vedmurti Devvrat Mahesh Rekhe, a 19-year-old Vedic scholar, achieved a rare accomplishment for reciting 2000 Vedic mantras in 50 days, completely memory-based. The holy city of Kashi hosted the event and welcomed prominent Vedic saints and scholars from 12th of October to 30th November this year.
  • He performed the “Dandakrama Parayanam” that includes 2000 mantras of the Shukla Yajurveda’s Madhyandini branch. It is a rigorous process and has only been performed three times in recorded history. After 200 years of Vedmurti Narayan Shastri dev from Nashik performing the Dandakrama Parayanam, Rekhe has made history.
  • Rekhe chanted the mantras out of memory after years of learning in the tradition of the Gurukul system of education. “Dandakrama Parayanam” is one of the eight vikrutis in the Vedas. The recitation event was attended by eminent Vedic scholars and saints from Kashi, like Padm Shri Ganeshwar Shastri Dravid. Towards the end of the recitation, the entire hall joined him. Nilesh Kedar, his guru, said “It is a difficult discipline, and the highest test of memory, the ultimate test, has occurred here”.
  • “What 19 year old Vedamurti Devavrat Mahesh Rekhe has done will be remembered by the coming generations! Every person passionate about Indian culture is proud of him for completing the Dandakrama Parayanam, consisting of 2000 mantras of the Shukla Yajurveda’s Madhyandini branch, in 50 days without any interruption. This includes several Vedic verses and sacred words recited flawlessly. He embodies the finest of our Guru Parampara.” Said PM Modi.
  • He continued, “As the MP from Kashi, I am elated that this extraordinary feat took place in this sacred city. My Pranams to his family, the several saints, seers, scholars and organisations from all over India that have supported him.”
  • It is a matter of special pride for me that this Vedic ritual was performed on the divine land of holy Kashi. My heartfelt congratulations to his family, acharyas, saints, sages, and all the organisations whose support made this penance successful. Devvrat ji, heartiest congratulations with the best wishes that this achievement of yours becomes a beacon of inspiration for the coming generations.
  • He was felicitated by the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath at the Kashi Tamil Sangamam, he was awarded a golden bracelet worth Rs 5 Lakh and Rs 1,11,116, and blessings from the Jagadguru Shankaracharyas of Sringeri Sharada Peetham.
