Actor Rajpal Yadav gets bail from the Delhi High Court after he surrendered himself to the police due to the non-repayment of the money he borrowed for producing his directorial film Ata Pata Laapata. He took a loan of Rs 5 Crore in 2010, but the film did not do well commercially, and he failed to repay the loan on time due to financial loss. The lender filed a recovery case in court. He took the loan from Delhi-based Murali Projects Pvt Ltd in 2010.
The actor, known for his honesty and integrity, surrendered himself and spent days in the Tihar Jail, where high-profile and notorious inmates are kept. Even though he had taken a loan of 5 crore, the total amount to be paid by him amounts to Rs 9 crore.
This is the result of interest, legal costs, penalty and settlement costs. On 16 February 2026, the Delhi High Court granted him interim bail in the case after he deposited Rs 1.5 crore to repay the dues.
The bail has conditions which include no foreign travel without permission, passport surrender and bail bond submission. He must appear before the court for his next hearing on March 18, 2026.
On Rajpal Yadav making headlines, Sonu Sood came forward to help the actor with the repayment of the loan, and as per the sources, he signed for an upcoming film and also paid an amount in advance. The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) asked its members to help Yadav. Actors like Salman Khan and Ajay Devgn extended support as well.
