Around 148 flights were cancelled, and more than 250 flights were delayed that were scheduled to depart from Indira Gandhi International Airport.
Flight operations disrupted due to heavy fog
- Dense fog has continued to engulf the northern states of India. It has severely impacted New Year plans and those undertaking emergency journeys. More than 148 flights have been cancelled and 250 delayed at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport in Delhi. Travel advisories have been issued for the passengers by IndiGo, Air India, and SpiceJet. Airlines informed their passengers to read the travel advisories and check the status before travelling.
- IndiGO wrote "Foggy conditions remain in place across Delhi and several airports in northern india, with visibility yet to improve fully. As a result, the earlier impact on flight movements is likely to extend into the noon hours, and some delays may continue," while SpiceJet posted on X ". Due to bad weather in Delhi, all departures/arrivals and their consequential flights might be affected. Passengers are requested to keep a check on their flight status via http://spicejet.com/#status."
- The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a yellow alert and predicted heavy fog. "As we step into the new year, nature reminds us to move with care. From now until the morning of January 1, 2026, dense to very dense fog is expected across many regions — including East Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Odisha, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and extending to Assam & Meghalaya, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Jharkhand, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Uttarakhand, West Bengal & Sikkim, West Rajasthan, and West Uttar Pradesh. Please travel cautiously, keep your lights on, and stay safe on the roads. Let’s welcome the new year with patience and care, ensuring that every journey leads us home safely."
