A survey was conducted in partnership with YouGov with 2,010 respondents between June and July 2025 to explore and understand the premises of India’s Favorite Hobby “Overthinking”. The Nationwide Survey targeted Age groups Including GenZ, Millennials and GenX. Students, working professionals, self-employed and Business Owners Contributed in the Initiative. However, This survey Does not include Rural Cities/Villages in India, Housewives and retirees.

The Survey was Performed by YouGov Titled “Decoding the Emotional and Behavioural Triggers of Overthinking Across different aspects of Life”
The survey aimed at Unravelling the Truth and thinking process of an Overthinker.
Revelations To Blow your mind away
The survey was categorized into four parts: Food & Lifestyle, Digital & Social Life, Dating and Relationships, and Career & Professional Life.
Food & Lifestyle Facts
- It has been revealed about 81% Indians overthink for at least 3 hours per day. Contemplating life choices, jumping to conclusions, imagining the worst cases , and thinking about others' opinions are some of them.
- 1 In 3 People are Occupied with Scripting the next big thing in their minds. Thus Daydreamers you are not alone. This scripting routine happens in the bathroom, at night and when you are isolated. So, what's your thinking style?
- Around 63% of people cannot decide what to eat rather than deciding who to vote for.The Menu is Read several times that the reader almost Mugs it up.

Overthinking over Uploading a picture?
- Before Uploading an Instagram Story, 35% People Take 5 hours to decide. 59% of people think whether a story is share-worthy. While Viewing someone else’s story 29% make sure that they are not one of the firsts. Around 19% wonder whether viewing stories first make them look desperate.
- Are you an impulsive Buyer? Here’s a fact for you. 1 in 4 Indians get FOMO post-purchase. Why? The regret of wasting the opportunity to buy something they really needed, GenX constitutes around 32% Daydreaming about what they could’ve bought instead.
- “Can we talk?” Did you skip a Heart beat because 60% people go into a trance with these 3 words. They imagine the worst situations. Thinking about every life decision they ever made and to the most intricate details.
- Your delusional Thoughts and Internet, An absolute Match made in heaven. According to the surveys 35% people rely on google and chatGPT for a support system but they can’t catch a break even with this as 56% overthink about their searches and what people may think.
Meeting or a battle within ?

- While meeting someone for the first time 55% of people contemplate over what to wear. 56% Wonder how their laugh sounds and practice their speaking skills.
- 49% face trouble deciding the location to meet someone for the first time. 57% analyze every single compliment. 45% Of millennials and 43% of Genz fear getting into an unstable relationship.

- Over 42% of employees take a deleted message from the boss as a threat or worse, an imaginary termination letter with “OK” as a red alert for 23%.
- 2 of 3 Indians have deeply considered multiple jobs they could turn to with 10% more than three.
- If you constantly edit, rewrite and delete till your last brain cell is active here’s something for you. 76% Indians like their write ups to look perfect with no flaws in it.
- Procrastination is under the disguise of planning as 70% people delay their work due to planning and planning. GenZ and millennials join hands in this category.
