TRUMP DOUBLES UP TARIFF ON INDIA TO 50%, PM MODI REACTS

India calls out Trump Administration’s Hypocrisy as the Ministry of External Affairs Releases a statement explaining how the America and European union buys Oil and uranium worth billions of dollars and Euros from The russia itself while threatening India with Tariffs by accusing it to finance russia-ukraine war by buying oil from the former.

In a bold move, the USA imposed a 50% tariff on India for buying Russian Oil on Wednesday. There are industries that have been exempted from such medicine. The 25% was imposed as a penalty for purchasing Russian oil according to Trump. This action was seemingly an outrage after being questioned on US imports from Russia. The tariff is to take effect 21 days from now. 50% tariff on all Indian goods exports to the US.

Trump had initially given a deadline to rethink about Russian Purchases and also open Indian markets for American dairy products, to which the Indian government refused and continued to take firm stand.

PM Modi on Thursday while speaking at the MS Swaminathan Centenary International Conference, briefly commented on the tariff hike and continued to support his stance.
“For us, the interest of our farmers is our top priority. India will never compromise on the interests of farmers, fishermen and dairy farmers. I know we will have to pay a heavy price for it and I am ready for it. India is ready for it” PM Modi said.

MEA addressed the issue with “We have already made clear our position on these issues, including the fact that our imports are based on market factors and done with our overall objective of ensuring the energy security of 1.4 billion people of India."
“We reiterate that these actions are unfair, unjustified and unreasonable. India will take all actions necessary to protect its national interests”

Modi-Trump relations have hit rock bottom after the tariffs. He wants to pressurize Russia to end war with Ukraine by targeting his closest allies, at the same time open up markets to sell American products. Trump has been continuously targeting India by openly calling it a dead economy when, according to the IMF, it has a growth of 6.4%, one of the highest in the world and recently surpassed Japan to become the 4th largest economy in the world.

Tariff on enemies like China and Iran is at the moment paused while It actively targets Its own ally’s India. China has backed India’s decision saying “India’s sovereignty is non-negotiable”
PM Modi is expected to visit China after the Galwan clash for the SCO meeting. It can serve as an opportunity to rebuild India-China relations to combat Unprofessional administration dominance over the world.
