Arvind Kejriwal, the head of the Aam Aadmi Party and the chief minister of Delhi, claimed today that the Gujarat assembly election campaign is a hoax by the BJP about implementing a uniform civil code. The leader of AAP said the governing party made the same pledge before the Uttarakhand assembly elections but didn’t follow through on it after winning the elections, casting doubt on the state government’s intentions.
Mr. Kejriwal stated at a news conference in Bhavnagar that the government should implement the Uniform Civil Code since Article 44 of the Constitution stipulates its duty. Still, it should be done with the permission of and in collaboration with all groups.
