Assam Floods: Nearly two lakh people are affected by the floods

The incessant rainfall so far affected two lakh people in 24 out of 33 districts in Assam. 

Due to the ongoing floods caused by continued rainfall and landslides in Assam, 7 people are reported dead.

Officials of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said two people died in southern Assam's Cachar district during the past 24 hours while five died earlier in landslides in Dima Hasao and Lakhimpur districts, 4 in Dima Hasao and 1 in Lakhimpur.

“According to the officials, six people remained missing in the Cachar district due to the floods and landslides. An ASDMA bulletin said at least 2,02,385 people were affected and around 6,540 houses were either partially or fully damaged in 811 villages under 24 districts.

Over 33,300 people took shelter in the 72 relief camps even as the district administrations have opened 27 relief distribution centres.”

Cachar and Hojai districts are brutal hit said the Disaster management officials.

National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and Fire and Emergency Services, have been set into the service to carry out rescue and relief operations in the flood-hit areas.
