President Xi Jinping was left red-faced after protest banners calling for his ouster appeared in Beijing, just days before he was scheduled to be re-elected at the ruling Communist Social gathering of China's 20th congress.
According to a tweet from a journalist located in Beijing, the banners' messages denounced China's Zero Covid coverage, called for a lockdown, and promoted the need for a "revolutionary change." Another banner refers to Xi as a "dictatorial traitor."
According to a source, the authorities eventually took down the banners after the videos and images went viral on social media. Where the banners had been before they were taken down in Haidian district, smoke was seen pouring from the road.
"Let us strike from schools and from work and remove the dictatorial traitor Xi Jinping,"one of the catchphrases, according to a news story.
Despite the regime's insistence that Beijing's Zero-Covid strategy, which relies on travel restrictions, quarantines, and frequent lockdowns, has been successful in containing the spread, it has drawn fierce condemnation.
The zero Covid policy was expected to terminate after the 20th congress, in the eyes of the Chinese people. However, all of their dreams have been shattered after the Chinese official media ‘vowed to never lie flat on virus controls’ in an editorial. In order to stop epidemics across the nation before the Congress, authorities hastened to implement new lockdowns and restrictions in important cities like Shanghai.
The economic expansion has slowed as a result of the strict Covid regulations, and the real estate crisis is not working in the Jinping administration's favour.
The rigorous two-five-year tenure limitations imposed by his successors, which were followed to prevent the "danger" of a one-party state being ruled by a single leader, will be broken by Jinping's victory, as was predicted.
The aggressive behaviour of China towards Taiwan under Jinping has strained ties between Beijing and Washington, D.C. Following the skirmishes in 2020 Galwan, ties with India, a neighbour, are also tense.
