Constitution Day of India : 26 November

Every year 26 November is celebrated as Constitution Day in India. The Government of India declared 26 November as Constitution Day by a gazette notification on 19 November 2015.

In fact, the Constitution was prepared on 26 November itself. Every year, Constitution Day is celebrated on 26 November to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India. Apart from this, Constitution Day is also celebrated to spread the ideals and principles contained in the Indian Constitution among the general public and to honor the contribution of the makers of the Constitution.

Gazette notification (official form of Government of India) to this effect was issued by the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment on 19 November 2015. It was said in the notification that the current year is also celebrating the 125th birth anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, who presided over the Constituent Assembly and played an important role in the framing of the Constitution of India.

Before 2015, this day was celebrated as Law Day (National Law Day).

26 November, which is celebrated as ‘Law Day’ by people associated with the Indian legal field, has been notified as ‘Constitution Day’ by the Government of India by a gazette notification on 19 November 2015. For this reason, Constitution Day was celebrated for the first time on 26 November 2015.

As it is known, the Constitution of India was adopted by the Constituent Assembly on November 26, 1949 and came into force two months later on January 26, 1950. People associated with the legal field consider this day as National Law Day (or Law Day) to commemorate the adoption of the newly created Constitution of the Republic of India by the Constituent Assembly on November 26, 1949. Now this day also started being celebrated as Constitution Day after the notification of the Government of India in the year 2015.
