Every year 25 January is celebrated as National Tourism Day in India. People not only get experience through tourism, but it also provides employment to many people. Tourism plays a special role in increasing the GDP of the country. Celebrating this day was started with the aim of highlighting its importance. History of National Tourism Day

Celebrating this day started in the year 1948. In the year 1998, the Department of Tourism was established under the leadership of the Minister of Tourism and Communications. Understanding the importance of how tourism can contribute to the development of the country, the Tourism Traffic Committee was first formed. About three years after its formation, in 1951, regional offices of Tourism Day were established in Kolkata and Chennai. Then tourism offices were also established in Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata.

Theme of National Tourism Day

Every year National Tourism Day is celebrated with a different theme. This year’s theme is “Stable Journey, Timeless Memory”.

The main objective of celebrating National Tourism Day is to promote the tourist destinations present in India not only in the country but across the world. Through this, India’s economy gets strengthened. Apart from this, tourism is a big source of employment for every country, so one of the objectives of celebrating this day is to promote employment

Difference between National and International Tourism Day

Tourism Day is celebrated twice a year in India. While National Tourism Day is celebrated on 25 January, International Tourism Day is celebrated on 27 September.
