The Delhi University (DU) has established two joint control rooms, one in each of the north and south campuses, to prevent indiscipline and ragging on the premises. Both outside the varsity and outside each institution, women police officers in plain clothing will be stationed. In order to ensure discipline at DU beginning with the new academic term, vigilance squads and police pickets will be put into place.
The police will deal with offenders in cases of eve teasing and ragging. Since all such PGs will be routinely inspected by the police, DU students who want to stay in them must make sure the location is verified by law enforcement, according to an official warning from the university.
“In this connection, the colleges and departments have been requested to strictly enforce the rules and regulations issued from time to time, especially the provisions of Ordinances XV-B, XV-C, and the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 (14 of 2013),” DU Registrar Vikas Gupta said.
“All colleges, faculties, departments and hostels have been requested to form an anti-ragging, disciplinary committee and vigilance squad taking the help of NCC/NSS students volunteers wherever possible to monitor ragging,” said Gupta.
Gupta continued by saying that the universities, centres, and dorms have been asked to restrict outsider admission and to conspicuously publish guidelines about the ban on ragging in their individual establishments.
