At the first war crimes trial since the invasion, a Ukrainian court had sentenced a Russian soldier to life imprisonment for killing an unarmed Ukrainian civilian.

Vadim Shishimarin the 21-year-old, whose trial initiated on May 13, asserted guilty to killing 62-year-old Oleksandr Shelipov in the village of Chupakhiva, in northeastern Ukraine, on February 28.
