According to the Hindu epic, Ramayana, Lord Shri Ram's wife Sitaji was abducted by Ravana. Lord Shri Ram, with the help of his army of monkeys, built a bridge over the sea and freed Mother Janaki while fighting Ravana's army. In this context, Vijay Dashami is celebrated every year to commemorate the victory of good over evil.

Ramlila Performance: One of the most integral aspects of Vijay Dashami celebrations is the performance of “Ramlila”, a dramatic depiction of key events from the Ramayana. Effigy Burning: In many parts of India, effigies of Ravana, his brother Kumbhakarna and son Meghnad are burnt. These tall effigies are filled with firecrackers and set on fire, symbolizing the destruction of evil forces.

Vijaya Dashami Procession: In some areas, processions are organized with images of Lord Rama, Sita, Lakshmana and Hanuman which are carried on ornate chariots. Devotees join these processions.
