According to the most recent BWF Junior rankings, Anupama Upadhyaya is only the second Indian shuttler to win the top prize in the under-19 girls singles division. On Tuesday, the 17-year-old from Panchkula, who had earlier this year won junior international championships in Poland and Uganda, replaced fellow Indian Tasnim Mir at the top. She is one of the four girls that appear in the Top 10 of the junior rankings and has climbed two spots to take the lead with 18.060 points from 18 events.
Tasnim Mir, who is ranked second, and two 14-year-olds, Anwesha Gowda and Unnati Hooda, are the other three Indian women's shuttlers in the Top 10. (number 9). Anupama is only the sixth Indian shuttler to win the junior championship overall.

Aditya Joshi (2014), Siril Verma (2016), and Lakshya Sen (2017) were the previous male champions, while Sankar Muthusamy Subramanian, 18, took the top spot last month.
Anupama, presently ranked No. 63 globally, has entered the senior women's Top 100 list.
Anupama, a Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy graduate, had an outstanding season this past January, when she advanced to the semifinals of the Syed Modi International Super 300 tournament before making it to the quarterfinals of the Orleans Open Super 100 competition.
The Indian is now getting ready for the Junior World Championships, which will take place from October 17 to October 31 in Santander, Spain.
