World Tourism Day 2022

One only needs to take a vacation to a stunning location to unwind after being stressed out by the difficulties of one's personal and professional lives. Such vacations contribute significantly to the growth of the socio-cultural, political, and economic sectors of a nation and the global community. They are not only a luxury for the wealthy. World Tourism Day is observed annually on September 27 to recognise the significance of tourism.

The Indian government this week issued the "Dharamshala Declaration" to reaffirm the nation's status as the "global leader in the tourist sector by 2047" in an environmentally friendly way. The effects of the epidemic were felt in India as well; according to data, the tourism sector took a significant hit when the number of foreign tourists arriving fell from 10.93 million in 2019 to 2.74 million in 2020.

The creation of the United Nations World Tourism Organization is commemorated on this day (UNWTO). On this day in 1970, the UNWTO's rules were adopted. The group has a big part to play in promoting travel all across the world. Therefore, its founding is seen as a significant tourist turning point. The economy of India and its culture, which is constantly proponent of "Atithi Devo Bhava," both benefit greatly from tourism. On this occasion, Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister of Road and Transport, tweeted his best wishes on World Tourism Day.

This year, it is Indonesia, and the festivities begin that day in Bali. Putting people and the environment first, the goal is to unite people from all walks of life to make the sector diverse, sustainable, and resilient. The day's theme will be observed at individual festivities held by all UNWTO member states, as well as by non-members and sector players.
