Ahead of Congress, Chinese party leaders laud Xi Jinping and his leadership

A closed-door meeting that ended on Wednesday saw President Xi Jinping again reaffirmed as the "core" of the Communist Party of China (CPC), according to an official communiqué.

A day after Xi launched the twice-decade conclave by promising to create a prosperous "modern socialist country" for a "new era," some ruling Communist Party leaders were moved to song, dance, and tears in admiration of him on Thursday.

Three members of the powerful Politburo Standing Committee (PSC), which is led by Xi, were applauded as "Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era", according to the official Xinhua News Agency.

The Xinhua report repeatedly referred to Xi as a "core," indicating his position as the party's de facto leader. “reflects the common aspiration of the whole party, the whole army and the whole nation, and is of decisive significance to the endeavors of the party and the country”.

Additionally, a report from the 19th CPC Central Committee to the 20th CPC National Congress and a work report from the 19th CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) to the congress were discussed and adopted during the plenary session. For review and discussion, the three texts will be presented to the forthcoming Congress, which starts on Sunday.
