Attack on UN peacekeepers in Mali results in two deaths and four injuries

In northern Mali on Monday, two United Nations soldiers were murdered and four others suffered critical injuries after their truck collided with an IED. MINUSMA, a peacekeeping organisation, tweeted this.

Islamist insurgents, some of whom have ties to al Qaeda and the Islamic State, have been waging war in northern Mali for the past ten years.

According to the peacekeeping operation, the peacekeepers were hit while conducting a mine search and detection patrol in the Kidal region's Tessalit commune.

Approximately 12,000 military personnel are now serving with MINUSMA, the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali.
