Sri Lanka Economic Crisis: Nirmala Sitharaman assures every potential cooperation and assistance.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman met her Sri Lankan counterpart Ali Sabry at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) annual Spring Meetings and World Bank on Monday.  She discussed the present economic crisis and its approach to handling the overall challenges in Sri Lanka.

Nirmala Sithaaraman assured Sri Lanka of every possible cooperation and financial assistance. India will “try to extend all possible cooperation” to the neighbouring country. 

"Union Finance Minister Smt.@nsitharaman assured Sri Lanka that as a close friend and good neighbour, India will try to extend all possible cooperation and assistance to Sri Lanka,"- the Ministry of Finance said in another tweet.

India has raised financial assistance to Sri Lanka worth more than $1.5 billion, including two lines of credit for purchasing fuel, food and medicines.

IMF ( International Monetary Fund) chief Kristalina Georgieva appreciated India’s assistance to Sri Lanka.
