Toronto, Canada, apologises to Sikh security personnel over the N95 mask controversy

According to a Toronto Sun report, over 100 security guards were dismissed as a result of a law requiring them to be clean-shaven in order to put on N95 masks.

According to a legal representative for the Sikh organisation quoted by The Sun, private contractors told the Sikhs they were obeying city instructions and either fired or reassigned anyone requesting a religious exemption. Additionally, Toronto has instructed security service providers to abide by its new directive. In accordance with an official declaration, " abide by all human rights legislation and require contractors to also comply... will not accept any contractors failing to accommodate religious freedoms' '. Accordingg to CBC News in Canada, city officials have now announced that they will permit "under-mask beard covers" as a choice for people who choose to preserve facial hair as a tenet of their faith.
