The Delhi Commission for Women has warned the city police and Miranda House at Delhi University over claims that men scaled the college gates to view an open Diwali festival on campus and engaged in "cat-calling and sexist sloganeering."
“Men entering safe spaces to harass gender minorities is nothing new, but they out do themselves every time (sic)” She wrote.
"Due to huge crowd gathering at a Diwali Mela organised in Miranda House College in North Campus on October 14, gates were closed by college admin. Some students tried scaling the walls but were prevented. The program went peacefully No formal complaint received so far." DCP North Delhi stated in a tweet on Sunday.
The Delhi Commission for Women has in the meantime also taken suo moto notice of the occurrence and described it as a "very serious matter." DCW Chairperson Swati Maliwal has asked Delhi Police for a copy of the FIR and information regarding the arrests in the case by October 20. “If no arrests have been made, please inform the steps being taken to make the arrests,” she said.
