Comedian Kunal Kamra warned by BJP after flaunting a T-shirt mocking RSS

Comedian Kunal Kamra has found himself in yet another controversy surrounding political beliefs. He recently posted a picture of himself wearing a T-shirt mocking RSS and captioning the image “Not clicked at comedy club”. He received sharp criticism from the BJP, which threatened to lodge an FIR against him.

Kunal Kamra warned by BJP for mocking the RSS

  • Comedian Kunal Kamra posted a picture of himself wearing a T-shirt allegedly mocking right-wing Hindu nationalist organisation Rashtriya Swamsevak Sangh (RSS), the image had an image of a dog alongside the abbreviation “RSS”. The post was uploaded on Monday and immediately initiated a war on social media. BJP and Shiv Sena both criticised the comedian and warned him.
  • Maharashtra minister and senior BJP leader Chandrashekhar Bawankule called the picture “Objectionable” and warned Kunal Kamra of police action in the matter. He said, “The police would take action against anyone who puts out such Objectionable posts”. Still, the post was not deleted.

  • Shiv Sena leader and Maharashtra cabinet minister Sanjay Shirsat asked the BJP to take strict action against him because this is the second time he had mocked an organisation. He said, “Earlier, he targeted Prime Minister Modi and Eknath Shinde, and now he dared to directly attack the RSS. The BJP needs to respond to this.”
  • In March, he got into a massive controversy over his reprised version of the song “Bholi si surat” which was used as a political satire to criticise Prime Minister Modi and Eknath Shinde. Several FIRs were lodged against him by Shiv Sena leaders, and it ignited a political war over “right to speech” and is demanding accountability from politicians, a crime?
  • Kunal Kamra responded with another picture in which he wore a t-shirt with an image of the Constitution and captioned it “Outrage doesn’t run this country, The Constitution does…”
  • The Internet is divided over the issue, as one user backed him and said, “Put that T-shirt on sale!” Another user criticised the post and wrote, “This is the only organisation that everyone envies. But the RSS does virtuous work, and no one can stop it.”
