In Jharkhand’s Chaibasa, a 26-year-old techie was gang-raped; a SIT was established

On Saturday, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was established to look into the alleged gang rape of a 26-year-old software engineer in Chaibasa, 180 kilometres from the state capital Ranchi. The engineer was allegedly raped by about ten males on Thursday night in Chaibasa while she was out with her boyfriend on a two-wheeler, according to the police. They were stopped by a gang of eight to 10 guys who then allegedly raped the woman after beating her boyfriend, according to the police.

The accused left her there after performing the crime and ran away. Additionally, her wallet and phone were taken. The woman was able to return home and inform her family of the occurrence, which led to them calling the police.

At the Sadar Hospital, she underwent a medical examination. Ashutosh Shekhar, the superintendent of police for West Singhbhum, stated that the SIT is made up of the sub-divisional police officers (SDPOs) for Chaibasa Sadar, Jagganathpur, and the officer in charge of Mufassil police station.

According to Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Sadar) Dilip Khalko, 12 persons were detained for questioning in relation to the event. When asked if there had been any arrests related to this, the SP gave a negative response. The incident prompted the BJP to call for the resignation of Chief Minister Hemant Soren.
