Neeraj Chopra wins the Lausanne Diamond League with a massive 89.08-meter throw

Before his first throw at the Lausanne Diamond League tournament had touched down, Neeraj Chopra had his arms up in celebration—a scene that was all too common. As it turned out, the attempt—a massive 89.08-meter throw—was successful enough to help him win the competition and keep up his impressive year. None of his rivals even came close to duplicating his throw, with USA's Curtis Thompson taking third place and Czech Republic's Jakub Vadlejch placing second with a best effort of 85.88m. Additionally, it was the first time that an Indian won the top place in a Diamond League competition.

Chopra made his comeback at the Lausanne Diamond League competition following his injury at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon.

He could not defend his Commonwealth Games crown in Birmingham due to the injury.

However, he easily won the race in Lausanne after dominating the competition. After his first throw of 89.08 meters, Chopra made a second try of 85.18 meters.
Chopra omitted the third throw since none of his rivals could throw any better than his second effort. Unfortunately, his fourth attempt was a foul.

While Vadlejch recorded his greatest throw in the fifth round, he also omitted his subsequent throw.

Chopra, who had already nearly assured himself of first place, threw 80.04 meters on his final effort.

Neeraj's victory was assured when Valkejch and Thompson won the final rounds, leaving only the top three to compete.

Chopra had been second in Stockholm's Diamond League competition earlier this year, but she now has a first-place finish to surpass that.

Additionally, he doubled the previous national record that he had set for himself.

At the Paavo Nurmi Games, he first established a new national record, which he later surpassed in Stockholm.
