Attacked and killed by a tiger in Lakhimpur Khiri, UP, was a 40-year-old man

In the Maheshpur area of the South Kheri Forest Division, a 40-year-old man was murdered on Saturday after being attacked by a tiger.
Veerpal, a resident of Bakarganj village inside the boundaries of the Hyderabad police station, was attacked by the giant cat when he was in the sugarcane field gathering fodder for his cattle, according to a forest officer.

The tiger escaped across the thick fields as other farmers working in adjoining areas rushed to his aid. Veerpal was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Gola, where he later passed away from his wounds, the official continued.

Sanjay Biswal, the divisional forest officer for South Kheri, went to the area with field personnel to assess the situation.

Mr. Biswal assured the victim's family that they would receive all assistance available and said that search and rescue teams had been sent in to lure the tiger back into the jungle.

Considerable cat activity, including tigers and leopards, has reportedly been recorded from the region often, according to Mr. Biswal. The residents have thus been urged to take extra precautions when traveling to the fields.
