Coronavirus updates

The nation reported 71,365 fresh cases of Coronavirus in the last 24 hours as per a government bulletin report. The number of Coronavirus infections is a little higher than the daily cases that were reported a day earlier but the number of infections has remained under the one-lakh mark. Kerala has reported the highest number of fresh cases in the past 24 hours. 

The WHO (World Health Organisation) has said that the COVID-19 cases have fallen 17 per cent across the world in the last week as compared to the previous week’s data including the 50 per cent drop in the number of cases in the United States of America. The death toll has also declined by 7 per cent as per the World Health Organisation. 

The weekly report from the United Nations Health Agency which was released late Tuesday has shown that the Omicron variant has been dominating, consisting of almost 97 per cent of the total cases as it was tallied by the virus-tracking platform known as GISAID. A little over 3 per cent of the cases were of the Delta Variant, which was predominant in the second wave of the virus compared to the Omicron has been the latest highly-transmissible variant that has shaken the world. 

Glenmark has also received manufacturing and marketing approval from the Drug Regulators in India for the production of NONS (Nitric Oxide Nasal Spray) as part of the approval process. The Phase 3 trials in the nation have met with the key endpoints and it was also demonstrated that the spray led to the reduction of viral load of almost 94 per cent in 24 hours and almost 99 per cent in 48 hours. It has been deemed safe and well-tolerated in Coronavirus patients. NONS will be marketed under the name FabiSpray.

The Rajya Sabha on Tuesday was told on Tuesday that according to the multiple studies that have been conducted globally to assess the transmission of the latest variant and to compare the transmissibility of this variant with the previous variants of concerns, it was found that Omicron’s rate of transmission is much higher than all the other Coronavirus variants. It was also shown that vaccine-induced antibodies have also led to the reduction in the ability to neutralize the Omicron variant. 

The Union Government is keeping a close watch over the number of infections in the nation to prevent and mitigate the impacts of the virus if it resurfaces. The Central government is also supporting all the states and Union Territories in their fight against the COVID-19 Pandemic.
