Delhi reports 129 new dengue cases, bringing the total to more than 500

In the past several days, about 130 people have received a dengue diagnosis, bringing the city's total vector-borne illnesses this year to more than 500.
Following many days of heavy rain in the capital, there has been an increase in dengue cases. In a report issued on Monday, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) stated that 281 incidents had been registered up to September 21 this month alone.

Up to September 17, the city has 396 dengue cases on record. It added that one hundred twenty-nine new patients had been detected in the past two days.

75 of the 525 instances documented this year, or as of September 21, were reported in August. Additionally, it is the most dengue cases ever recorded in  January 1-September 21 since 2017, when the corresponding figure was 1,807.

This illness has not yet been linked to any recorded deaths this year.

This year, Delhi has seen a total of 106 instances of malaria and 20 cases of chikungunya, according to the data. Later, the MCD claimed in a statement that it had carried out a push to stop the spread of dengue.

It stated that 1,027 construction sites were examined as part of the investigation, and 257 of those locations had mosquito breeding.

In addition to the ITPO in Pragati Madan, the Sports Authority of India in Dwarka, the SAARC University in Maidangarhi, the DMRC in Dakhinpuri, the DDA housing complex in Sector 19 of Dwarka, and the Mohan Cooperative Industrial Estate are notable construction sites where breeding has been discovered.

On Saturday, the chief minister met with top representatives from the health division, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), and other divisions.

Before this, a top MCD official had stated that "we are working on steps to counteract it" and that the increased dengue cases were "a subject of worry."

Typically, cases of vector-borne illnesses are discovered between July and November. However, they may last until mid-December.

According to civic officials, the weather this year was ideal for mosquito breeding, which led to dengue cases being reported earlier than usual.

In the city last year, there were 9,613 dengue cases reported, which is the most since 2015, and 23 fatalities, the most since 2016.

The city reported 23 dengue cases on January, 16 on February, 22 in March, 20 on April, 30 on May, 32 in June, and 26 in July, according to the MCD report.

According to the data, Delhi reported 481 dengue cases between January 1 and September 20 last year. The numbers for 2019 were 282, 2020 was 212, and 2021 was 273. Dengue-related deaths were linked to ten recorded fatalities in 2016 and 2017, four in 2018, and two in 2019.

In Delhi, 4,431 dengue cases were reported in 2016, 4,726 in 2017, 2,798 in 2018, 2,036 in 2019, and 1,072 in 2020, according to government statistics.
