This year many festivals are coinciding with the lunar eclipse. Actually, the lunar eclipse will last from 1:06 AM to 2:22 AM on October 29. Generally, Sutak tomorrow is considered 12 hours before the lunar eclipse. That means Sutak period will last from October 28, 2023 2:52 PM to October 29, 2023 2:22 AM. No auspicious work is done during Sutak period and during this period many festivals are also being celebrated. In such a situation, there is confusion as to what to do and when.

What to do?

Due to Sutak being on the evening of 28 October 2023, 27 October 2023 will be a better day for all the auspicious works related to Purnima. Keep the kheer on the day of Sharad Purnima in the moonlight from 4:17 AM to 4:42 AM on 28 October 2023. In this way, the timing of Sutak will also be followed and auspicious works will also be completed without any hindrance.

Tale behind Lunar Eclipse (Chandra Grahan)

Lunar eclipse is an astronomical phenomenon but it has special significance in Sanatan-Hindu religion. The story of lunar eclipse has its roots in mythology.

According to mythology, when the Samudra Manthan was taking place, there was a huge war going on between the gods and the demons over drinking the nectar, when the gods deceived the demons and drank the nectar.

Lord Vishnu took the form of Mohini and assumed the form of a beautiful girl and assured everyone that the nectar would be distributed equally to all. The demons and the gods sat separately and Vishnu started distributing the nectar to the gods in the form of Mohini, a demon named Rahu thought that if he sat among the gods, he would also get a share of the nectar. He was sitting with the gods and had also taken nectar. He had become immortal forever, while doing so, Sun God and Moon God caught him and told this to Vishnu and Vishnu separated the blade of Rahu from Sudarshan Chakra, after that incident Rahu and Ketu were born. Happened.

The name of the head of the demon was Rahu and the name of the torso was Ketu. He was the staunch enemy of both Sun God and Moon God, hence he always comes to their position and eclipses both of them.

Astronomical cause of lunar eclipse

A lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes through the Earth’s shadow. This occurs only during the full moon, when the Moon is at its farthest point from the Sun. A lunar eclipse lasts a long time, taking several hours to complete, with totality usually averaging about 30 minutes to an hour. According to astrology, lunar eclipse is an astronomical event. When the Earth comes between the Moon and the Sun and the Earth’s full or partial shadow falls on the Moon, a partial or total lunar eclipse occurs.
