Lahori Gate building collapse: fourth fatality

Several days after three people died in a building collapse incident in the Lahori Gate neighbourhood of central Delhi, another person died from their injuries there on Wednesday, according to authorities.

After suffering injuries in the incident that happened on Sunday night, Sankar Begum (60) was taken to the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital. Four people have now died, according to them. “She has sustained severe injuries but she was getting better. She was talking to me till 2am in the morning but she complained of uneasiness this morning and then died,” she said.

A two-story house with four small shops on the ground floor collapsed on Sunday evening, killing three people, including Khushi, 4, who was walking by with her father and two members of the family who lived there, Suleman, 75, and Shagufta, 70. All three were residents of Valmiki Road, close to Swami Shradhhanand Marg.

According to Naghma, the Waqf Board owns the house where they reside and it fell even though they had written to them a year prior to request repairs since cracks had shown. However, the Waqf Board said that the local mosque's management committee was in charge of this site as it was given to them.
