Navjot Singh Sidhu Steps down as the Punjab Congress Chief after Sonia Gandhi’s decree.

Navjot Singh Sidhu, former president of the Punjab Pradesh Congress committee resigned after  Congress chief Sonia Gandhi asked PCC presidents of Punjab, Uttarakhand, Goa, Uttar Pradesh, and Manipur to resign from their respective posts. This was done in order to expedite the reestablishment of the party. He handed his resignation on Wednesday.

He shared the information about his resignation on Twitter through his Twitter handle.

He tweeted “ As desired by the Congress president I have sent my resignation……”, followed by a picture of the letter of his resignation from the post.

I hereby resign as president(PPCC)”- the letter reads.

The Congress faced despicable defeat in Punjab winning only 18 seats. Sidhu lost to AAP’s Jeevanjot Kaur by 6,750 votes, while AAP swapped 92 seats.

Also, several candidates claimed mismanagement in the Punjab Congress Committee.
