What is Pradhan Mantri Suryodaya Yojana?
Pradhan Mantri Suryodaya Yojana is a scheme of the Central Government, under which rooftop solar panels will be installed on more than 1 crore houses. The objective of this scheme is to make India self-reliant in the energy sector. Under this scheme, the Government of India will provide subsidy for installing rooftop solar panels on the roofs of houses.
A rooftop solar panel is a photovoltaic panel that can be installed on the roof of any building. This panel, which receives energy from the sun, is connected to the main electricity supply line, so that the consumer can also sell the excess electricity to the government through the grid. Due to this, the consumer’s expenditure on electricity gets reduced. Rooftop solar panels don’t cost much to install other than one-time costs, and they have nominal maintenance costs.
Grant amount received from the government under Suryodaya Yojana
Under the Solar Rooftop Scheme, a campaign is being run to install solar on private residences. The benefit of this scheme is especially for those families whose electricity connection is between 1 kilowatt to 3 kilowatt or whose connection is between 4 kilowatt to 10 kilowatt. The Government of India is giving a subsidy of Rs 30000 on 1 kW, Rs 60,000 on 2 kW, and Rs 78000 on 3 kW to 10 kW.
Uttar Pradesh government is giving additional grant of Rs 15,000 to Rs 30,000. If the funds of both the Central and State Governments are combined, then a grant of Rs 45,000 is available for 1 kW, Rs 90,000 for 2 kW and Rs 1,08,000 for 3 kW to 10 kW.
The grant given under this scheme is available only on domestic on-grid system. On grid system is the system in which the electricity generated by solar goes directly to the grid. After this, the number of units that will be sent to the government through the grid will be used in the electricity bill.
