President Murmu spoke at an IIT-Delhi event about the need to make our institutions future-ready

President Droupadi Murmu urged educational institutions to adapt to the future on Saturday, highlighting shifting employment realities and increasing technology.

President Murmu stated, "IITs proved to the world the capability of India in the domains of education and technology," at the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of IIT Delhi today. The history of the IITs is, in many ways, the history of independent India. The IITs have made a significant contribution to India's current enhanced position on the world stage.

She claimed that IIT faculty members and graduates had demonstrated our intellectual prowess to the outside world. She pointed out that some of the people who attended IIT Delhi and other IITs are currently leading the global digital revolution.

The fourth industrial revolution would have significantly altered the world by 2047, when India will commemorate the 100th anniversary of its independence, according to Murmu. Disruptions will become the new normal in the future, so we must plan ahead and have plans in place to deal with them, she said.

“If we take steps to protect ourselves from vagaries of the future, we can reap rich demographic dividends. We need to make our institutes adaptable to the future. This will require a new teaching-learning matrix, pedagogy and content which are future-oriented,” Murmu said. “I am sure that with our famed IITs, we will be able to nurture the younger generation with the necessary knowledge base and right skills to face the challenge. India will benefit immensely from the next wave of the technological revolution.”

The President emphasised the major threat that climate change faces and noted that, as a developing nation with a large population, we have very high energy needs to support economic growth. Therefore, we must switch from using fossil fuels to using renewable energy.

She asserted that she had faith in India's youthful engineers and scientists to assist humankind in making a breakthrough in the coming years as the world eagerly searches for technical answers to environmental concerns.
