Woman sets herself ablaze and complains of police inaction on a rape complaint

An official reported on Sunday that a 26-year-old lady suffered severe burns when she set herself on fire inside a police station because she believed the police had ignored her charge of rape in Shahdol, Madhya Pradesh.
The official stated that two cops have been line-attached (removed from the field responsibilities) for their role in the incident that happened in Amlai police station on Friday while the woman is receiving treatment at a hospital in Jabalpur.

According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Kumar Pratik, Mohammed Sameer, who oversees the Amlai police station, and Sub-Inspector Savitri Singh have been line-attached for negligence.

According to the woman's accusation, a case of rape was filed against revenue official Brij Bahadur after the incident, and he was detained, he claimed. The woman allegedly filed a complaint with the police on August 12 saying that the defendant had been in a relationship with her with the intention of getting married but later declined.

Later, the woman reported the incident to the Chief Ministers Helpline. As a result, the police brought the woman and the accused to the police station on September 2. That same day, the woman allegedly lit herself on fire there.
