SP leader Azam Khan is sentenced to three years in prison for hating Adityanath

In a 2019 hate speech case against Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath, Samajwadi Party politician and former minister Azam Khan was given a three-year prison term and a ₹2,000 fine on Thursday. Khan was found guilty in the matter by an MP-MLA court in Rampur.

Khan is a prominent member of the Akhilesh Yadav-led party and a current lawmaker from Rampur, Uttar Pradesh. His Assembly membership is about to expire.

A charge was reportedly filed against Khan in Rampur in April 2019 for allegedly uttering offensive comments about Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, and Aunjaneya Kumar Singh, the district magistrate of Rampur at the time.

Khan has been imprisoned for the previous few months due to a number of cases that were brought against him.
