When was Labor Day celebrated for the first time

Why do we celebrate Labor Day?
The movement started in America before 1886. In this movement, American workers came to the streets. The workers went on strike for their rights. The reason for this movement was the working hours of the workers. During that time, workers used to work 15-15 hours a day. During the agitation the police opened fire on the workers. During this period many workers lost their lives. Hundreds of workers were injured.
Proposal to celebrate labor day
Three years after this incident, the International Socialist Conference met in 1889. In this meeting it was decided that each laborer would be required to work only for 8 hours per day. After the conference, it was decided to celebrate Labor Day on 1st May. It was also decided to give leave to workers every year on this day. Later, like the workers of America, the rule of working for 8 hours was implemented in many other countries also.
Labor day in India
The proposal to celebrate Labor Day in America came into effect on May 1, 1889, but in India, celebrating this day started after about 34 years. In India too, workers were raising their voice against atrocities and exploitation. The workers were being led by the leftists. In view of his movement, Labor Day was celebrated for the first time in Chennai on 1 May 1923. It was announced to celebrate Labor Day under the chairmanship of Labor Kisan Party of Hindustan. Many organizations and social parties supported this decision.
