After Deepti Sharma’s run-out, Kapil Dev gave a direct response to the “Spirit of Cricket” controversy

After sweeping England in the ODI series, 3-0, Team India has returned to its home country. Additionally, Jhulan Goswami, a legend in cricket, said his final goodbyes throughout this series. With Charlotte Dean being "Mankad" by Deepti Sharma to close the game, the last ODI of the series also sparked a significant "Spirit of Game" discussion online.

English batsmen Sam Billings, Stuart Broad, James Anderson, and many more are publicly expressing their displeasure with the way Deepti decided to finish the game. Deepti Sharma has, however, consistently received online support from Indian cricketers and fans.

A "Spirit of Cricket" discussion was sparked by Deepti's dismissal, which entirely diverted attention away from India's historic series victory over England and the famous Jhulan Goswami's farewell. Many English veterans and experts in the game questioned Deepti's actions. India's greatest player, Kapil Dev, added his voice to the controversy on Monday by posting a response to Instagram.

Deepti earlier on Monday shed light on the entire "Spirit of Cricket" controversy when she disclosed that Dean received multiple warnings before to being dismissed, and the umpire was also made aware of it.

The final dismissal of the game occurred in the 44th over of England's chase after Deepti observed Dean backing up excessively far at the non-striker end. Deepti's dismissal was perfectly legal under cricket regulations, as the rule regarding run-outs at the non-end striker's was recently removed from the "unfair play" part.

Kapil Dev, who imposed a similar expulsion on Peter Kirsten, a South African batter at the time, in 1992, took to Instagram to address the issue bluntly before proposing a remedy. As he wrote,  "In a situation like this, I feel instead of intense debates every time - there should be a simple rule. Deprive the batsmen of their run . It should be deemed a short run. It's a better solution in my mind."
