India's government released a statement today, the day after Foreign Minister J Jaishankar met with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov in Moscow, saying that the two countries would talk about the general international situation in the context of the conflict in Ukraine and specific regional issues.

On the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Mr. Jaishankar stated today, "India firmly reiterates the return to talks."

"In terms of the current international climate, the Covid epidemic, financial strains, and trade challenges have all impacted the world economy. Additionally, we are witnessing the effects of the situation in Ukraine, "added Mr. Jaishankar.

"Additionally, the longer-lasting problems of terrorism and climate change hinder development and wealth. Our discussions will cover the planet's general condition and specific regional issues, "added the foreign minister.

India and Russia have maintained a solid and ongoing relationship at many levels. The most recent meeting between President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Narendra Modi took place in Samarkand in September.

Amid the conflict in Ukraine, which encouraged the West to sever commercial links with Russia, India has also been purchasing oil from Russia.
