India would provide $500,000 to the UN Trust Fund for Counter Terrorism this year, according to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, to help member states improve their ability to fight terrorism.
He made this declaration today in New Delhi while delivering the keynote presentation at the UNSC's Counter Terrorism Committee's (CTC) special meeting on "countering the exploitation of new and emerging technology for terrorist objectives."
Speaking at the UNSC's special meeting in the capital, Mr. Jaishankar said that India would voluntarily contribute $500,000 to the UN Trust Fund for Counter Terrorism this year to assist the Office of Counter Terrorism's efforts to support member nations in preventing and combating terrorism.
In his speech, Mr. Jaishankar emphasized that despite the UN Security Council's (UNSC) best efforts to confront the "gravest peril to humanity," the global threat posed by terrorism is rising and expanding, notably in Asia and Africa.
"The greatest threat to humanity continues to be terrorism. To confront this threat, the UN Security Council has developed an essential infrastructure during the past 20 years centered on the counterterrorism sanctions system. This has been quite successful in warning nations that have made terrorism a state-funded industry, "added he.
