P Ravichandran, a second Rajiv Gandhi assassination defendant, petitions the Supreme Court for release

P Ravichandran, who has served 30 years in prison, mentions the instance of AG Perarivalan, a fellow prisoner who was released two months ago after serving 31 years according to a court judgement.

P Ravichandran, one of the murder suspects in the death of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, went to the Supreme Court today and demanded that he be released like his fellow prisoner AG Perarivalan. Ravichandran, who has been imprisoned for 30 years, requests temporary release on bail while his official release case is being resolved.

While the six other defendants are still incarcerated, the Supreme Court had on May 18 ordered the release of AG Perarivalan. In his petition, P Ravichandran highlighted the court’s ruling, which was submitted on his behalf by attorney Ananda Selvan.

According to the plea, Ravichandran donated $20,000.00 of his jail labor wages to establish the Tamil Chair at Harvard University in the United States, demonstrating that he is a “socially concerned guy” and “won’t pose a threat to any of the victims.” he reported. He managed to earn the money from prison jobs between 2016-17

The plea promises that “he will not be a destructive force in society.”

In a previous letter to MK Stalin, the chief minister of Tamil Nadu, Ravichandran requested the release of the remaining six prisoners, including himself.
